College Apparel
Logos & Licensing For UCLA
The
widespread use of UCLA marks on letterhead, signs, brochures, T-Shirts
and other products broadens and enhances the image of the school,
and serves as a subtle form of advertisement. Improper use of UCLA
trademarks can be damaging to the reputation of the school.
All campus groups
and departments must source commercial consumer products bearing
any UCLA trademark through a licensed vendor. This includes greek
apparel or any other college apparel bearing the UCLA trademark.
Commercial and consumer products include goods for resale and/or
goods to be given away. Commercial use is only permitted by license
or authorization from ASCULA per the Chancellors Policy
No. 1220.
All items to
be used for promotional purposes (giveaways, premiums, etc.) are
considered commercial, but may be eligible for a royalty exemption
if offered to an internal audience. Written requests for royalty
exemptions from the respective campus department or group will
be reviewed by the UCLA Trademarks and Licensing office. The UCLA
Trademarks and Licensing office can be reached at (310) 794-8851.
Any and all
products bearing UCLA trademarks must be produced by one of UCLAs
licensed manufacturers, like Quick Draw! We will complete all
the necessary paperwork and send out production samples to the
Trademarks and Licensing office for you.
Costs
The Licensing fee for all products bearing UCLA marks is 8% of
the invoice. All fees collected go directly to UCLA. Licensing
fees go to funding student operated activities, as well as alumni
and athletic programs on campus.
Taboos
1. UCLA marks are not to be used in any way that could state or
imply an endorsement. Nor can they be used in the name of a business
or logo, or in advertising services.
2. Uses of Universitys marks associated with alcohol, tobacco,
condoms, gambling products, or items which could be used to maim,
kill, or otherwise present a high liability exposure will not
be allowed.
3. It is UCLA policy to prohibit the use of any of its symbols,
insignia, or other identifying marks in connection with partisan
political activity or religious affiliation of any kind.
Finally, if
you're not sure whether your college apparel or greek apparel
is subject to these guidelines, call the Licensing office at (310)
794-8851.
